Modeling Opportunities

General Tips and Suggestions for Portraits

Creating visual art takes a little planning.  Fine portrait photography captures the essence of the individual while the use of wardrobe, accessories and props help create the mood and atmosphere.

Here are a few tips and suggestions to take into consideration.  Also check out the details for your specific session:

Get plenty of rest

Don't get a haircut a day before your session.  Plan ahead.

Avoid overexposure to the sun the day before your session.

Coordinate your wardrobe and accessories a couple day prior to your session.  This gives you plenty of time for any changes or additions in your clothing selections.  Make sure your clothes are pressed and cleaned.  Put your clothes on hangers and check for defects.

Avoid wearing yellow or green as they can adversely affect skin color.  Avoid busy patterns or bright contrasting colors that will distract from your face.  Stick to plain clothing.  Wear long sleeves if at all possible.

If you wear prescription glasses, you should not wear them, remove the lens prior to your session, or use a pair of empty frames.  If you wear your glasses, your final portraits may have glass glare in them, even though we do our very best to avoid it.  Retouching does not remove the glare.  Expensive artwork for each print, charged to the client, is the only way to correct the glare.

Fashion Photos / Hollywood Glamour

Avoid dry lips by putting Vaseline on your lips before bed and the morning of your photo session.  Bring a fresh tube of mascara.  Keep your brows plucked.

Have clean, dry hair in your normal style.  Dark roots will look even worse on film.  Refresh your hair color a few days before the shoot.

Fingernails should be one length, well manicured and the polish should be colorless or French.

For full body shots (lots of skin showing) be sure you get rid of tan lines.  Eliminate unsightly body hair.

Be ready for your session.  Retouching can be used to remove acne, blemishes, and soften dark circles and lines.  Retouching can't fix bad hair days, wrinkled clothing, a broken nail, and red tired eyes or glass glare.

Be on time.  You should arrive for your session 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment.  We keep all appointments on schedule.  If you arrive late, the time lost comes from your session.  You photo session is fun and exciting.  We treat you like the star that you are!  So prepare to have a good time and that will transcend into outstanding visual art.

Headshots

Bring a variety of shirts with different necklines.  Long sleeves are best, sleeveless can make the arms look big.  Choose solids, avoiding white, stay away from busy prints and patterns.  Avoid clothing with big buttons or ornamental designs that shine, it only distracts from your face.

If you wear earrings or jewelry, keep it to a minimum.

Portfolios

Bring a selection of clothing styles; formal, bikini, casual, athletic, etc. for a variety of looks.

Boudoir / Artistic Nude

For full body shots (lots of skin showing) be sure you get rid of tan lines.  Eliminate unsightly body hair.  Use plenty of lotion the night before and the day of your session.  Concentrate mainly on knees and elbows.

Wear loose clothing to the session to avoid red marks from your clothing.

Props

Be sure to bring matching jewelry, shoes, and accessories for any outfits. Like the clothing, bring any props which have special meaning. Examples might include special jewelry received as gifts, sports equipment, or unusual accessories. If these photographs are for somebody special, think about their likes and dislikes and hobbies for ideas on what to bring.

Music

We generally play music during our sessions when we work indoors. If you have some favorite CD's or cassettes, please feel free to bring them along to include. We find that soft, mellow music works best in most cases.

Other Preparations

Be sure to shave your legs and under your arms and around your bikini line if necessary about 12 hours before the photography session. If you wait until just before, you may have red marks on your body or fresh nicks and scratches which will show in the photographs.

Retouching

Due to the softness of the images, the posing, and costuming our clients do not generally request retouching. A simple blemish here or there is retouched at no charge. More extensive retouching is available for an nominal charge if desired. More extensive retouching can add to the amount of time needed for the final images to be ready.

Payment and Policies

We ask that you make a small deposit or "creative fee" at the time you make your appointment so we may reserve the date and time just for you. This creative fee helps to cover the costs associated in creating the portraits for you. We ask that you refer to our Rates page for a description of packages available.  If your needs fall outside of our standard packages we will happily work with you to develop a session that's right for you.  On the day of your session, we will collect any minimum purchase amount still due. We accept cash or checks. Arizona sales tax will be added to all prices.

Privacy

We respect your privacy. We never show your photographs to anyone outside of our staff without your permission. The subjects in all of the sample portraits you see at our studio and online have given us permission to show the portraits to others. We appreciate the trust they have shown to enable to demonstrate our skills and art to you. Please advise us how you feel about this, either way, so that we may make a notation on your file.

Other Questions

Please feel free to call or email us if you have any questions before your sessions. We want you to be totally prepared so that you can relax and enjoy the session.

What is Boudoir Photography?

At Dave Schwartz Photography boudoir glamour photography is an artistic creation.  The result is intimate lingerie portraits or an artistic nude photo that reflects fine art style of photography.  Boudoir style photographs can be provocative without being revealing.  They can be revealing without being provocative (as in "art nudes") or they can be both provocative and revealing.  How revealing they are is up to what you would like and how comfortable you are during the photography session.

Most women think of boudoir photographs as being about lingerie (or partial nudes or nudes), but they can also be provocative poses made in normal clothes, sometimes perhaps worn in an unusual way (such as pulled open a bit more or pulled up or down a bit more, or worn missing something, such as overalls or suspenders without a shirt).  Boudoir pictures can also be fantasy style photographs where you cover yourself with things besides clothes.

Preparation goes into each and every photo session to create the ultimate atmosphere that is both relaxing and comfortable.

The professional boudoir photographer makes your feel completely relaxed.  He takes special care in lighting the shots as well as collaborating on posing to create the ultimate centerfold look. One of the greatest gifts you can give your significant other is a beautiful photograph of yourself, and boudoir style photography is one of the most popular forms of self expression. Dave Schwartz specializes in creating lasting beautiful images that you will treasure for a lifetime.

Boudoir photography is typically photography that romanticizes and celebrates the female form. It is often done as a gift to ones lover. Boudoir photography is typically suggestive, romantic and is often shot with the model nude, semi nude or with implied nudity. Boudoir photography is almost always done in the studio with a bedroom or casual setting using tasteful and classy props to enhance the feeling of romance and richness. We are prepared to travel with our location lighting to light your bedroom or location that you would like us to photograph. Because of the time to create the set and light it, boudoir photography is more expensive than outdoor glamour photography.

If you are a looking to give a superb gift, book a boudoir photography session with Dave Schwartz. You don't have to have a models looks or body. By skillfully draping your clothing and accessories it is a simple art to accentuate your strengths and hide your weaknesses.

Dave Schwartz Photography makes sure you're the center of attention - just like a movie star.  The result is outstanding boudoir portraits.
